Clinical Overview

A Pterygium is a pinkish, triangular, fleshy tissue growth that develops on the conjunctiva and slowly spreads over the cornea. Often caused by prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) sunlight, dry winds, and environmental dust, it can cause chronic irritation, redness, foreign-body sensation, and cosmetic concern. If it grows large, it pulls on the cornea, causing astigmatism and obscuring the visual path. We perform sutureless pterygium excision surgery using a conjunctival autograft (CAG) secured with advanced biocompatible fibrin glue. This suture-free technique ensures minimal post-op pain, very fast recovery, and lowers recurrence rates to under 5%.

Advanced Treatment Options & Technology

Conjunctival Autograft (CAG)

Replacing the excised pterygium tissue with healthy conjunctiva from the upper eyelid to prevent regrowth.

Sutureless Fibrin Glue Technique

Securing the graft using tissue adhesive instead of stitches, drastically reducing pain and irritation.

Your Treatment Journey at SOCH

1

Ocular Assessment & Sizing

The size, thickness, and corneal encroachment of the pterygium are analyzed under a slit-lamp microscope.

2

Excision & Sutureless Grafting

The growth is carefully dissected. A small piece of healthy conjunctiva is placed over the area and bonded with fibrin glue.

3

Healing & Protection

An eye patch is applied overnight. Healing begins immediately, and you can resume most light activities within a few days.

Ideal Candidate / Eligibility

  • Pterygium growth causing chronic redness, irritation, or foreign-body sensation.
  • Growth approaching the central cornea, risking permanent vision obstruction.
  • Astigmatism caused by corneal warping due to the growth.
  • Aesthetic concerns due to visible pink growth on the white of the eye.

Recovery Guidelines

Do's (Recommended)

  • Apply your prescribed antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye drops strictly.
  • Wear UV-protection sunglasses outdoors to prevent UV-stimulated regrowth.
  • Clean your face with a clean towel without getting tap water in the eye.

Don'ts (Avoid)

  • Never rub or touch your eye, as this can dislodge the tissue graft.
  • Avoid dusty, dirty, or smoky environments during the first two weeks.
  • Do not go swimming or wear eye makeup until cleared by the doctor.
