Squint Surgery

Precision muscle alignment surgery for children and adults to coordinate movement and restore depth perception.

Squint (Strabismus) surgery involves tightening or loosening specific eye muscles to change the eye position. This aligns the eyes, improving cosmetic appearance and, in some cases, restoring binocular vision and depth perception.

Clinical Overview

Squint, scientifically known as Strabismus, is a condition where the eyes are misaligned and do not look in the same direction simultaneously. This can affect both children and adults, causing eye strain, double vision, and a loss of binocular depth perception. In children, it can lead to Amblyopia (lazy eye) if left untreated. Squint surgery involves altering the tension of the extraocular muscles that control eye movement—either weakening (recessing) or strengthening (resecting) them to align the eyes. Our squint specialist uses advanced adjustable suture techniques, allowing fine-tuning of the eye alignment shortly after the procedure for perfect results.

Advanced Treatment Options & Technology

Muscle Recession & Resection

Repositioning the eye muscles on the eyeball to weaken or strengthen their pull and align the gaze.

Adjustable Suture Surgery

Using temporary knots that can be adjusted in the clinic post-op to achieve absolute precision in alignment.

Your Treatment Journey at SOCH

1

Prism Testing & Orthoptic Check

We perform thorough measurements using prisms to quantify the angle of the squint in all directions of gaze.

2

Extraocular Muscle Alignment

The surgeon makes a tiny incision in the white of the eye (conjunctiva), accesses the muscles, and adjusts their position.

3

Post-Op Alignment & Recovery

If adjustable sutures were used, final alignment is checked and locked. Redness is normal and fades over 3-4 weeks.

Ideal Candidate / Eligibility

  • Diagnosed strabismus (esotropia, exotropia, or vertical squint).
  • Experiencing double vision (diplopia) or eye strain due to misalignment.
  • Children showing squinting, head tilting, or lazy eye development.
  • Adults seeking squint correction for cosmetic alignment and depth perception.

Recovery Guidelines

Do's (Recommended)

  • Apply your antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye drops exactly as prescribed.
  • Do the visual coordination and tracking exercises recommended by your specialist.
  • Keep your eyes clean using sterile wipes.

Don'ts (Avoid)

  • Do not splash tap water directly into your eyes for at least 10 days.
  • Avoid swimming, hot tubs, and dusty environments for 3 weeks to prevent infection.
  • Do not rub your eye, as this can break the delicate muscle sutures.

The surgeon accesses the eye muscles through a tiny incision in the conjunctiva and repositions them to align the eyes.

Yes, very fine, dissolvable sutures are used. They do not need to be removed manually.

The eye may be red and mildly sore for a few weeks, but normal activities can usually be resumed within a week.

Squint surgery aligns the eyes but doesn't correct refractive errors like nearsightedness, so you may still need glasses.

Yes, the success rate is very high. Occasionally, multiple surgeries might be needed to perfectly fine-tune the alignment.

Absolutely. It is never too late to align the eyes, improve cosmetic appearance, and sometimes restore depth perception.

It depends on the specific type of squint. Sometimes only one eye needs surgery, sometimes both.
